One of the main problems for the production of forage is its seasonality, to overcome this drawback, one of the methods of preserving the forage for later use is silage. This practice guarantees the maintenance of the quality of forage over time.

Silage is a conservation technique for forage or / and whole wet corn, which consists in covering the vegetable with plastic sheets. The conservation takes place by means of the spontaneous lactic fermentation which takes place in anaerobic conditions (in the absence of O2) by means of acidification a fermentation takes place (reduction of the pH to a value of about 4.2) This process allows to preserve the forage from the moment of the harvest up to over a year, and consequently allows to offer a good quality compound in order to replace or supplement the feed.
